Brand new art festival in Amstelpark Amsterdam

The first edition of the Euro Art Festival is being held in Amsterdam’s Amstelpark from 26 August till 17 September 2006. Installations, sculptures and paintings by twelve professional artists from Holland and abroad are being exhibited both
indoors and outdoors in the event area of the park.

Outdoors, Linda Verkaaik demonstrates how she compressed her car to a compact package of 900 kilo’s. Petra Groen’s womb swing hangs from a tree and Frea Lenger presents two installations. The beautiful Japanese Garden is the setting for sculptures by Ellen Welten-Louwers and Nancy Echter.

The indoor exhibition showcases paintings by Svetlana Tiourina, Irene Kunst, Zhanhong Liao, Sanneke Griepink, Lucienne Kleverlaan, John Bottse and Burd Elcaya.

The festival is organised by Stichting Euro Art Evolution, which was founded by artist, musician and composer Burd Elcaya. The aim of the foundation is to interest a broader public in art and to create new perspectives for professional artists.

The Euro Art Festival will take place yearly in the Amstelpark. Within three to five years the event will be introduced in other European cities, such as Berlin and Barcelona.

About the Amstelpark
Amstelpark was officially built for the Floriade in 1972, when International and Dutch exhibitors decorated the park with their presentations. Floriade is an international horticulture exhibition held every 10 years somewhere in Holland. With its children’s farm and playground, midget golf, train, galleries, restaurants and now the Euro Art Festival, Amstelpark offers a combination of nature, culture, art and recreation.
